Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Getting Toasty!

With the sweltering temperatures during the month of August, 'getting toasty' may not sound like such a great idea. Of course, this could mean laying out on a white, sandy beach soaking up some rays, taking a break between sweat spells with a splash in the (hopefully) cool blue ocean waters. Nah! That's not the toasty idea for this day's celebration. Let's see what is on the calendar for 'getting toasty' that actually may cool you down.

August 30 is...

National Toasted Marshmallow Day

The thought of roasting marshmallows brings on additional thoughts: fire, bonfires, fire pits, camp fires. With either type of fire comes light within the darkness, tremendous heat, sound of crackling wood and that wonderful woodsy smell. For sure, the atmosphere is calming and brings on a lot of fun! Usually fall temperatures are more inviting for the 'fires' so since this is August, how about a few recipes that can be prepared within the air-conditioned kitchen?

In order to achieve that irresistible char on the marshmallows, here are a few options: toasting them with a kitchen torch, broiling them, or roasting them over a gas stove burner.

Make the batter with hot cocoa mix, self-rising flour, an egg and veggie oil. That’s it! Top the cake with marshmallows, then, slightly toast them with a kitchen torch. You could also lightly toast them using a fork or skewer over a gas stove and then put them on the cake. The marshmallows melt the rest of the way into the warm cake.

That's more like it for 'getting toasty' in August!
