Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

Honoring America's Veterans

This Day in History: September 10, 1919

Veterans of World War I parade down 5th Avenue in New York City on Sept. 10, 1919. The parade was held to honor General John J. Pershing and an estimated 25,000 soldiers from the American Expeditionary Force, almost one year after the official end to the war.

War is hell. Those who know the horrifics of war are those who have seen first hand its dreadfulness, desolation and devastation. Life is forever changed with memory upon memory of all that was necessary to support and defend the heart of America. Yet often many memories are never shared because they are much too painful. The sacrifices are beyond the call of duty symbolizing what freedom truly means, rather than being something taken for granted simply because one lives in America.

Not every war has welcomed soldiers home with ticker-tape parades, bands and cheers of jubilation. Yet, the fight was no different from one to another except for perhaps the reasons encompassing war and the military devices used to inflict destruction. With each battle came service without question, even to this day.

Know what it means to be a veteran. Honor America's veterans with support for their service and sacrifices. Never let one pass without letting him or her know how much each one's dedication is appreciated. That is the least one can do!
