Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

More, more, more...Music!

Today in Music History: July 10

Do you know what is so good about pizza? CHEESE! More cheese...more, more, more! The same goes for music! You can never have enough music...taking the time to stop and listen to the music opens the door to more, more, more! We have already visited 1950 today with a step back in time to the radio & television show "Your Hit Parade." Each show capitalized on the tobacco auction theme and ended with the signature phrase "Sold, American."

Let's continue the music into the 60s and 70s...

1961 Bobby Lewis started a seven week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Tossin' and Turnin', the longest running No.1 single of 1961, spending seven weeks at the top of the chart.
Bobby Lewis is one of those talented performers whose recognition is confined to a single monster hit, "Tossin' and Turnin'." Released in early 1961, the single rode the charts for 23 weeks, eventually hitting the number one spot on both the pop and R&B charts. Lewis had other hits, including a Top Ten follow-up with "One Track Mind," and had been working for years before that, yet the one song came to be his signature.

1965 The Rolling Stones started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', the group's first chart-topper there. In the UK, the song was initially played only on pirate radio stations because its lyrics were considered too sexually suggestive.

From then 'til... 2006
The Rolling Stones performing "(I Can't Get No) Satsfaction", live on Copacabana Beach, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, February 2006. This is the largest concert of all time, attended by 1.5million people.

Through the years there is always the occasion of the 'one hit wonder'. Such an occurrence happened on this day in 1976.

1976 One hit wonders Starland Vocal Band started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Afternoon Delight', it was also their only hit in the UK making No.18 on the chart.

And the music goes on beating to the rhythm of the changing times...
