Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

You Ain't Nothin' But a Hound Dog

Reminiscing over music of the 50s and 60s definitely brings Elvis Presley to mind. But, did you know Elvis was NOT the first to record "Hound Dog" during this iconic musical period in our history?

This Day in History: August 13, 1952

Big Mama Thornton circa 1955-1960
Wikipedia
Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton (December 11, 1926 – July 25, 1984) was an American rhythm and blues singer and songwriter. She was the first to record the hit song "Hound Dog" in 1952.

The best-known version of "Hound Dog" is a re-recoding of the original hit and did not hit the charts until four years later in 1956 by none other than Elvis Presley. In actuality, "Hound Dog" was recorded by five country singers in 1953 alone, and over 26 times through 1964.

 Which is your favorite?

Little Richard's Rendition

And last but not at all least ALF!
While he did not actually record the song, there were many episodes relaying his own encounters with one he considered nothin' but a hound dog!

Do you remember Alf?

Don't forget . . .
