Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

This Land is Your Land

Beautiful, the land of the free, the home of the brave are all iconic descriptions of America. Journeying from the Pacific coast to the mid-Atlantic encompasses what can best be described as a roller-coaster ride. Panoramic views from mountaintops take your breath away, not from the thinness of the air, but from the eye-popping views that extend upward and outward along the horizon. From grasslands to meadowlands, amber waves of grain and fruited plains are sung to the tune of America.

This is our land, my land and your land, to be honored in reverence of those who fought and died to make her free, in tribute to those who are still fighting today to maintain that freedom, and in regard to those who are yet to fight to see that freedom is never lost.

Flashback in Time:

Woody Guthrie in 1943. Wikipedia

This Land is Your Land is an iconic folk song written by Woody Guthrie in 1940. Many renditions have been re-recorded by numerous vocal artists, i.e., Bob Dylan, The Kingston Trio, Trini Lopez, Jay and the Americans, The New Christy Minstrels, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bruce Springsteen, and Pete Seeger.

Connecting the past to the present. . .

With its latest release by Neil Young and Crazy Horse on June 5, 2012, the empowerment of this song still weighs heavy in the hearts and souls of America.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Neil Young is not just another rock artist; he is a master of guitar strings and a lyrical luminary. To celebrate the upcoming release of Americana, Neil Young invited musicians to compete for the chance to have their rendition featured on his social media channels.

Jason Harrod tried to do what Neil did and make "This Land is Your Land" his own. There's something healing about driving down the highway beside someone you love, letting the land wash over you at 65 miles per hour.

  3. Sharla, you always please me with your posts. Jarrod, however, doesn't. I just hate when someone changes words and tunes to iconic patriotic songs. Why don't they just make up their own and leave the original the way it was originally done? It doesn't say from the New York City (he added city, why?). Anyway, if Neil Young messed it up too, I'm glad I haven't heard it. Wow, I'm really complaining here, better stop! Anyway, I love your posts Sharla, they make me happy! Have a blessed evening!
